Ahhh, the glorious day off from work. I savored every sip of a Keurig brewed, day-off only cup of coffee while making my To-Do list for the day. I was ready to get some “stuff” done!
Cathy asked me, “Are you going to Animal Control today?”
Shoot, I almost forgot. That’s not on my list. “Yes, I will go soon.”
Cathy and I learned of a 12 week old Samoyed puppy who had been taken in by Animal Control. Cathy and I have 5 Samoyeds of our own. To us, they are like Lays potato chips. “You can’t have just one!” But that’s a differnt topic all together :)
I met with the Animal Control Officer. The puppy had bitten someone and by state law had to be quarantined for 14 days. C’mon, it’s a freakin’ puppy! This little bundle of fluff doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body. Nonetheless, the law is the law. As it turns out, I know the puppy’s owner. I know the breeder. My fact finding mission quickly and unexpectedly turned into a take action plan.
We worked out a plan to have the puppy “serve her sentence” with the breeder. In all likelihood, the puppy will not be returned to the owner. And, it’s better for everyone involved that way. As a past dog training client of mine emailed, “She’s going into a Witness Relocation Program.”
So, I borrowed a crate from Animal Control, put Skye in the back of my car, and off we went for a 2 hour car ride. This DEFINITELY was not on my To-Do list. I had things I wanted to accomplish. UGGH!
But, sometimes, the stars get aligned the right way and the Universe screams at you, “This is more important than that.”
I arrived at our destination and this little girl lit up like a Christmas tree. She was in a good place now. She will get exercise and play with other pups. She will grow up in a better environment and the breeder already had a potential new owner in mind for her.
I got nothing done on my To-Do list. But, the Universe crossed off “Save Puppy” from its To-Do list.
When has the world thrown you a curveball? Did you swing and miss? Have you ever had a monkey wrench thrown into your best-laid plans? Did you go with the flow or did you resent the circumstances? Leave a comment, let me know!
Be Kind. Be Thankful. Be Significant.
